SEAMEO RIHED \u2013 Brief Overview <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Regional Institute of Higher Education and Development (RIHED) was originally conceived in 1959 in Singapore through a joint initiative of UNESCO and the International Association of Universities, with support from the Ford Foundation.\n It was established to strengthen higher education planning and development in Asia during a period of rapid post-independence expansion. In 1993, following a decision to reconstitute the Institute under the Southeast Asian Ministers\n of Education Organization (SEAMEO), and with the approval of the Royal Thai Government, RIHED was re-established in Bangkok as the SEAMEO Regional Centre specialising in higher education and development, known as SEAMEO RIHED. <\/p>\n

Mandate and Core Functions <\/strong><\/p>\n

SEAMEO RIHED\u2019s mandate positions the Centre as a regional catalyst for higher education development. Its work is guided by three core functions: <\/p>\n

1.      Policy and Systems Support<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Assisting Member Countries in strengthening the efficiency and effectiveness of their higher education systems, with a focus on policy and planning processes, administrative and management systems. This includes professional development\n and policy oriented research that is responsive to national priorities and contextual realities. <\/p>\n

2.      Regional Knowledge Exchange<\/strong><\/p>\n

Serving as a clearing-house for higher education information, research and documentation, promoting the exchange and dissemination of knowledge on higher education planning and management, both within and beyond the region. <\/p>\n

3.      Regional Collaboration and Institutional Linkages<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Promoting cooperation among Member Countries for establishing institutional linkages, and to assist their cooperation for the strengthening of institution-building and development. <\/p>\n

Strategic Direction <\/strong><\/p>\n

SEAMEO RIHED operates with a dual mission: To advance the development and resilience of Southeast Asia\u2019s higher education systems and to strengthen the contribution of higher education to the region\u2019s sustainable socio-economic transformation.\n As the lead SEAMEO Centre for higher education development, SEAMEO RIHED focuses on delivering high-impact regional initiatives that enhance talent development, workforce relevance and the sustainable socio-economic development of\n the region. <\/p>\n

Strategic Focus Areas <\/strong><\/p>\n

To deliver sustained impact, SEAMEO RIHED concentrates its work across four mutually reinforcing focus areas: <\/p>\n

\u2022 Higher Education Policy <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Leadership (Human and Institutional Capabilities) <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Regional Harmonisation <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Learning and Knowledge Exchange<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Implementation Strategies <\/strong><\/p>\n

To operationalise these focus areas, SEAMEO RIHED pursues three overarching strategies: <\/p>\n

1.      Forming and Managing Strategic Alliances<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Proactively engaging ministries, universities, regional bodies, private sector partners and international organisations to ensure inclusive, coordinated and region-owned initiatives. <\/p>\n

2.      High-Impact Collaborative Programmes<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Prioritising scalable and sustainable programmes that demonstrate clear regional value and deliver tangible benefits to Member Countries and institutions. <\/p>\n

3.      Communicating and Connecting Stakeholders<\/strong> <\/p>\n
