Prof. Rod Ellis

Rod Ellis is a Distinguished Research Professor in Curtin University (Australia), a longstanding professor at Anaheim University, visiting professor at Shanghai International Studies University and Emeritus Distinguished Professor of the University of Auckland. He is also a fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand. He has written extensively on second language acquisition and task-based language teaching. His most recent (co-authored) book is Task-based Language Teaching: Theory and Practice (2020) published by Cambridge University Press.

Professor Dr. Andrew Lian, Professor of Foreign
Language Studies, Suranaree University of Technology, Thailand; Professor of Postgraduate Studies in English Language Education, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Vietnam; Professor Emeritus of Languages and Second Language Education, University of Canberra, Australia. Andrew Lian specializes in the methodology of teaching foreign/second languages and has had a special interest in the uses of modern technology to enhance learning since the late 1970s. He is one of the pioneers of Technology-Enhanced Language-Learning in Australia. Previous to his appointment in Thailand, he was Professor and Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Western Illinois University in the United States. Prior to that, he had been Professor of Humanities and Director of the Center for the Study of Languages at Rice University, Houston, TX, the USA, and Professor and Head of the School of Languages and International Education at the University of Canberra in Australia. He has held further Professorial appointments and been Head of Department in two other universities in Australia (James Cook University and Bond University). His current research interests are in the area of Self-Adjusting and Self-Organizing (language/culture-)learning environments based on Rhizomatic approaches to (language/culture-)learning and the generation of Personal Learning Environments within a 21st-century perspective. He also has a heavy research involvement in Neuroscience (verbotonalism and related theories), Precision Language Education and the development and use of multimedia databases in (language/culture)-teaching and learning. Kathleen Heugh, Centre for Research in Educational and Social Inclusion at the University of South Australia, is a socio-applied linguist specialising in language education policy, planning and implementation in multilingual countries in Africa, Asia, and Australia. She researches the implications of English medium instruction and multilingual education policies and pedagogies. These include transknowledging, translation and translanguaging with bi-/multilingual students. She currently researches the pedagogical use of human language technology with students in EMI universities. Kathleen publishes widely and is Series Editor, with Christopher Stroud and Piet Van Avermaet, of Bloomsbury’s Multilingualism and Diversities in Education.

Kitty Barnhouse Purgason is professor emerita of TESOL at Biola University (Los Angeles), specializing in language teaching methodology. She has a PhD in Applied Linguistics from UCLA. She has lived, studied, served, or taught in India, Russia, Korea, China, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Mauritania, Indonesia, Kuwait, Oman, Vietnam, Spain, and Tajikistan. She is a three-time Fulbright fellow and is also a U.S. State Department English Specialist.
