Virtual Educational Forum on “Policies and solutions to ensure the quality of teaching and learning at basic education in Southeast Asia in the COVID-19 Pandemic”

On September 28, 2021, SEAMEO RETRAC organized a Virtual Educational Forum on “Policies and solutions to ensure the quality of teaching and learning at basic education in Southeast Asia in the COVID-19 Pandemic” from 13:30 to 17:00 (Vietnam Time) on the Zoom platform and streamed on SEAMEO RETRAC’s YouTube Channel.

The Forum was conducted back to back with the SEAMEO RETRAC’s 23rd Governing Board Meeting. This year, the Forum aimed at creating a professional platform for educational leaders, educators, scientists, researchers and students to not only be updated with policy innovations and best practices currently implemented in the Southeast Asian region but also to exchange ideas and experiences on solutions that schools have been used to address the educational disruptions and fulfil the needs of learning quality during and post COVID-19 pandemic.

Three main sub-themes of the Forum included (1) opportunities and challenges faced by schools in Southeast Asia during and in the post-COVID-19 era; (2) critical strategies, best practices and initiatives that help to transform crises into opportunities to promote hybrid delivery of curriculum, speed up educational reforms and build resilient education systems; and (3) policy changes regarding leadership, curriculum, assessment, pedagogy, and technology to ensure support for educational quality.

Speakers of the Forum included 05 SEAMEO RETRAC’s Governing Board Members from the Ministries of Education of Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam along with the honorable attendance of keynote speaker – Dr. Ethel Agnes Pascua-Valenzuela, Director, SEAMEO Secretariat, Thailand. The Webinar also welcomed over 120 participants from various Southeast Asian countries.
