TRAINING WORKSHOP - SciConnect: Building Teachers’ Capacity in Science Communication
From June 22 to 23, 2026, the SEAMEO Regional Training Center in Vietnam (SEAMEO RETRAC), in collaboration with the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics in Malaysia (SEAMEO RECSAM), successfully organized a training workshop entitled “SciConnect: Building Teachers’ Capacity in Science Communication” for English, Maths and Science teachers from primary and lower secondary school across southern provinces and cities of Vietnam.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Nanthini Jayaram and Dr. Parvinder Singh Amar Singh, Science Education Specialists from SEAMEO RECSAM. Through a series of presentations and practical activities, the workshop supported teachers in strengthening their ability to analyze learner profiles in order to design effective learning activities; enhancing their use of diverse communication strategies, both verbal and non-verbal, in science teaching; and building confidence in teaching science subjects in English through interactive and learner-centered approaches.

At the opening and closing ceremonies, Ms. Le Thi Thuy Duong, Director of SEAMEO RETRAC, emphasized the importance of strengthening teachers’ professional competencies in science communication, particularly in the context of Vietnam’s ongoing efforts to promote English as a second language in schools. She also highlighted the significance of the inter-centre collaboration between SEAMEO RETRAC and SEAMEO RECSAM in creating valuable professional development opportunities for teachers across the region.
