Empowering English Teachers with Technology
Emphasizing the importance of technology in modern education, SEAMEO RETRAC and the Regional English Language Office (RELO) – U.S. Embassy Hanoi co-organized the training workshop “From Principles to Practice: Designing Tech-Enhanced Lessons for English Classrooms” on November 11–13, 2024. Led by Prof. Dr. Anne Pomerantzm, a distinguished applied linguist from Pennsylvania University and RELO’s English Language Specialist, this innovative workshop brought together K-12 teachers from Southern Vietnam to explore cutting-edge strategies for integrating technology into English language instruction.
Participants engaged in sessions designed to elevate teaching practices through the principled use of accessible tech tools widely available in Vietnam, while comprehensively exploring the educational tech landscape, offering frameworks for classroom technology use, introducing innovative applications of artificial intelligence (AI) as teaching assistants, and learning how online resources can be used strategically to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. These modules ensured a holistic approach to technology integration. The program featured tailored activities, including designing tech-enhanced lesson plans, addressing challenges in low-resource contexts, collaborating in group projects, where participants showcased their creative tech-based lesson plans.
