48th SEAMEO Council Conference in Chonburi, Thailand


The Annual 48th SEAMEO Council Conference was held from May 06 to 09, 2015 at the Royal Cliff Hotel, Chonburi, Thailand. Attending the Conference were more than 200 delegates who are Ministers of Education, High Officials from SEAMEO member countries, affiliate members, SEAMEO Centers and international organizations.

The Conference included the launch of the Ministerial Round Table Meeting, bilateral meetings, the conduct of a policy forum on the theme "Digital Learning for Creating Future Global Citizens”, plenary sessions and so on. Among others, important resolutions of the SEAMEO Council included the adoption of the implementation and utilization of the 7 priority areas for Post‐2015 Education Agenda as well as the mobilizing and sharing of knowledge, the best practices on 21st Century skills among SEAMEO Member Countries and beyond. At the Conference, H.E. Admiral Narong Pipatanasai, Thai Minister of Education, was unanimously elected the SEAMEO Council President (term 2015 – 2017). On this occasion, Mr. Tran Ba Viet Dzung, was presented the SEAMEO 50th Anniversary Recognition Award. This award honors six individuals for their sheer dedication and involvement in education, science and culture, contributing towards a better life in Southeast Asia. Also at the Conference, Mr. Bui Bao Lam, a senior staff of SEAMEO RETRAC, was presented the SEAMEO Service Award.

The delegation from Vietnam joining this event was led by Minister of Education and Training cum former SEAMEO Council President, H.E Prof. Dr. Pham Vu Luan.
